Odd but Effective Techniques that Help with Weight Loss

Want to lose weight? You’re going to have to work hard because that’s how real and sustainable results are achieved. No pain, no gain. Of course, you don’t have to make things so boring. You can always insert one easy and odd yet effective tactic here and there on your regimen.

Consider these tips below:

1. Put a mirror right in front of your seat at the dining table.

One study revealed that eating in front of mirrors reduced the amount people consumed by almost 34%. Looking at yourself while you eat somehow reminds you that you have to go easy on your meal because you are working towards a certain goal.

2. Eat more in the morning than at night.

In a certain study, a group of obese females had breakfast packed with 700 calories, lunch having 500, and dinner containing a mere 200. The other group ate the same foods but in reverse sequence. In 13 months, the big-dinner eaters shed only 7 pounds while the big-breakfast eaters dropped eighteen.

3. Take photos of your food.

Instead of listing down each morsel, take a picture of it. It is believed that a visual account helps lessen your intake.

4. Make it wrapped candy.

A Swiss study found that people ate 30 percent less candy if it had to be unwrapped first. It takes some effort to remove the wrapper, making noshers crave less.

5. Sniff a banana.

You may feel ridiculous, but it works. This technique was actually the focus of an experiment which was participated in by 3,000 volunteers. It was noted that the more frequently the subjects sniffed, the less hungry they became, allowing them to lose around 30 pounds each. One theory explains that when you sniff food, your brain is made to believe that you’re eating it.

6. Light a vanilla-scented candle just when you’re about to eat dessert.

The aroma has been proven to relax cravings for sweets. A group composed of 160 people shed about of 4.5 pounds each just by wearing vanilla-scented patches.

7. Use all things blue.

There’s a good reason you won’t see a lot of restaurants with blue walls or d?cor – the color suppresses appetite. Researchers have found that people tend to eat a third less in a blue room simply because food looks less appetizing in blue light. So dress in blue while you eat, use a blue tablecloth, paint your dining walls blue, and so on. Stay away from red, yellow, and orange; research shows they increase appetite.

8,. Lights up, tunes down.

Restaurants are dim lit not only to make the ambiance more romantic, but also to encourage customers to order more food. Low lighting somehow eases eating inhibitions. As for music, soft tunes make you chew more leisurely, which means you will be chewing your food longer and quieting your appetite faster. Thus, you lose weight.
